Our Story
From a Pearl Milkweed Vine to a Texas-native nursery

I'm Yessica, and Root to Bloom started by accident.
A few years ago, my family bought land near Webberville, Texas. I spent weekends clearing thick underbrush, getting the place ready. One afternoon I noticed a small vine I'd nearly cut down — delicate, with little star-shaped flowers. I looked it up and learned it was a Pearl Milkweed Vine, a Texas native and a host plant for monarch butterflies.
That one plant changed everything. I started reading about Texas natives, how they sustain pollinators, and how poorly the plants at big-box stores are suited to our heat and clay. At the same time, I kept looking for the herbs my abuela grew — epazote, yerbaniz, mint marigold — and could never find them locally. So I started growing them myself.
Today, Root to Bloom is a small farm in Elgin where I grow Texas native plants, pollinator favorites, and the culturally significant herbs many of us grew up with — alongside farm-fresh eggs, vegetables, and handmade goods.
Everything you see in the shop, I grew or made by hand. When you pick up your order at the farm, I'll be there to answer questions in English or Spanish — and probably send you home with a planting tip or two.
Strong roots create beautiful blooms. Thanks for being part of ours.
